I read with great interest that Abington Township faces a possible $1 Million shortfall as they prepare next years budget. As with most government entities these days hard choices will have to be made, and tax increases are not an option.

However, in the case of Abington Township some of their expenses can be eliminated. One in particular involves the building of a library in Roslyn. Aside from the issue of the taking one’s personal property, unlawfully in my opinion, why are we doing this? Doesn’t Abington currently have a first class library? Haven’t we recently refurbished and upgraded this library? I have yet to hear the necessity for this other than to fill a campaign promise made by a commissioner. So in order to keep a frivolous promise the rest of the township need to incur the added expenses of the legal fight to take this property, and if successful, the mega-expense of outfitting an unnecessary extravagance, an extravagance that will be located approximately 1 mile from the main library on York road.

We have seen the effects of irresponsible spending by our elected officials in Harrisburg, Trenton, and Washington. We have experienced the job losses, bank failures, business closures, and dreams dashed for millions of Americans. All of these things can be traced back to the addiction of spending wastefully and the Political thinking that the spending of today will be paid for by others somewhere down the road. This must be stopped.

A new library in Roslyn is a luxury we cannot afford and do not need. If the commissioners in Abington insist on going down this path the taxpayers, voters, on Nov. 2nd need to correct this wrong. Use Election Day to send the message, no more waste!
